Welcoming research and refugees
Rome Laboratory at Griffiss International Airport is one of the Air Force’s “super labs” and has spun off numerous nearby companies in high-tech fields. NUAIR Alliance, a coalition of more than 200 private and public entities working together to operate and oversee unmanned aircraft systems, is based in Syracuse and supports the Northeast’s test site at Griffiss. History, Turning Stone, and waterfront recreation draw tourists. The county includes Revolutionary War battle sites, including Oriskany and Stanwix. Oriskany was one of the bloodiest battles of the war and a turning point in the revolution. Utica has a long tradition of welcoming refugees and immigrants that continues today.
